I went into this course thinking I had a solid handle on diving form and function. After working with Timmy, I realized just how much more there is to learn. He’s the kind of instructor who has forgotten more about diving than most of us will ever know. What I thought were gear or trim‑weight problems turned out to be small form issues he spotted instantly; both on the surface and later during after‑action video reviews. The level of detail he brings to every critique is unreal. I left my sidemount course with a whole new appreciation for how moving a hand, elbow, or fin just an inch can completely solve something I would’ve tried to fix with extra weight. Beyond the knowledge, Timmy is patient in a way that truly elevates the experience. He’ll surface with you as many times as needed, walk through a skill, explain the “why,” and make sure you can perform it correctly and in trim before moving on. My son and I took IANTD cavern with Timmy. And I can't recommend him enough. Having to teach a teenager takes a whole lot of time and patience. Timmy was awesome with both. He explained everything until we got it. And practice time was never limited. Timmy worked with us until we got the skills down perfect. And spent extra time working with my son. We have trained with other instructors. And NONE have ever taken the time Timmy did. I wish I had simply started my son with NFCT first. I have already planned to take full cave with NFCT this spring. Among other technical classes. If your looking to get into diving open water or more advanced classes. I highly recommend NFCT. It is was my first course with Timmy and North Florida Cave Training, but it definitely won't be my last. I had been looking to take Cavern from a cave instructor who teaches primarily in sidemount and holds students to an appropriately high standard. Timmy's name came up many times during my research, so I figured I'd give him a shot. He and his partner Autumn were super easy to schedule with and answered all my questions before I arrived. When my plans changed last minute, they were able to pivot on the fly and figure out how best to use my scheduled training days to meet my dive goals. That ended up being completing Intro to Tech, plus some sidemount gear reconfiguration. In a matter of days, Timmy got me into the best trim and buoyancy of my entire life. He worked at tweaking my setup until I was able to hover effortlessly in the water. He is an exceptionally talented instructor with the patience of a saint. He cut me no slack and delivered honest feedback after every session. That was exactly the type of approach I was looking for. Both my wife and I have just completed two weeks of diving with Timmy and Autumn from North Florida Cave Training. Being from the Netherlands, we researched both Florida and Mexico for our cave training. After spending time on Reddit and in the diving community, one name kept coming up again and again: Timmy Younge from NFCT. That made our choice easy. Email communication from the Netherlands was effortless—quick replies, clear information, and no hassle—so getting our December 2025 training booked was simple, From the very first day, we were humbled—in the best possible way. We quickly saw how much we needed to rebuild and master the fundamental skills that had never been fully addressed or corrected. Timmy broke down each weakness with precision and patience. We refined our trim, eliminated unnecessary movement, developed stable and controlled buoyancy, and corrected finning techniques. Every drill had a purpose, and every debrief made us noticeably stronger and safer divers—something we simply were not when we arrived. What stood out most was the commitment to high standards and deep knowledge of cave diving and its history. Nothing was skipped. The training pushed us toward real mastery—discipline, control, awareness, and team skills—which paid off enormously. By the end of the program, we were confidently and precisely diving in Florida’s flow caves, and we earned our NSS-CDS Apprentice Cave certifications. If you’re serious about becoming a better diver—truly better—this is the kind of training you want. There are no shortcuts, no paid certificates, and no ego. We did not complete Full Cave this trip, and we are genuinely grateful for that; we would rather be safe, skilled divers than dangerous ones with a card.
