Paul Hobbs2023-12-18I came into this niche world not knowing anything about cave diving or those who taught it. After a frustrating run with a different instructor, I finally hired North Florida Cave Training (Timmy Young) to take over. Not only did he teach me how to be a safe and competent cave diver, using his decades of expertise he was able to diagnose what had been holding me back for over a year. I owe so much more than a couple of certifications to this instructor and his wife. I wouldn't recommend anyone else to handle whatever diving certification you happen to be going for.
Jacob Grabowski2023-11-23I like to think of myself as an intermediate diver; PADI Rescue and a few specialties, TDI Advanced Nitrox and Deco Procedures, 150 dives in a dozen countries, etc. This year I took TDI Advanced Wreck, Cavern, and GUE Fundamentals, but felt like I’d really hit a wall in technical diving wrt my buoyancy/trim/propulsion techniques. Went to Timmy to attempt Intro to Cave and ended up getting some of the best help I’ve received since starting on the tech diving journey. Pretty much anyone can become a diving instructor but you just can’t fake experience, patience, and a knack for working with students. It’s also worth mentioning that he does his own fills, so you don’t have to make additional trips for tanks/fills. There’s something reassuring about breathing the same gas as the guy doing the fills- like a chef that eats their own food. As a bonus he’s a pretty amusing character and has a friendly personality that makes the hours or days you’ll spend together not just painless but enjoyable.

Hands down he is the best instructor I've had so far and I will be going back to him for more advanced training. If you are looking to get certified, look no further and don't buy anything until consulting with him! If you are already certified don't hesitate to take an advanced course from him. He builds a solid foundation and makes you practice the skills YOU need to be a better diver. I am a far more confident diver after taking his cavern course and I trust the gear I have. Highly recommend.

I was open water certified back in the 90s and had not been diving in over 20 years, Timmy was able to get me back feeling comfortable and confident. I will be back to take more advanced training.
Thomas Juopperi2023-10-18As far as cave training goes, Timmy is in the Florida top 5. I am new to cave diving and didn't realize the risk and skill necessary to enjoy this sport safely, nor did I realize the lack of proper training I had received up to this point. Timmy's experience, knowledge, and passion are superb and he is eager to share this with you. People die cave diving, literally 2-3 or more a year in Florida, and most accidents are due to lack of proper training and exceeding ones limits. Training with NFCT will teach you the proper skills, how to accurately assess your limits, and keep you alive. Once you attain your full cave certification through NFCT you will know you earned the certification, no freebies here, and you will have confidence that you will come home alive after every dive. Be careful whom you have certify you to risk your life, I choose Timmy with NFCT, as should you.

Nothing is sugar-coated however, so if a person can’t handle constructive criticism about his training and only wants to hear what he wants to hear, look elsewhere. If you want a thorough training program with zero shortcuts, then you have found the right place! No worries, you will be acknowledged when you do things correctly! And you do have fun. But prepare yourself to be humbled, educated, open to real tangible growth, and the satisfaction of mastering techniques and procedures correctly. The aim is always safety. Safety. Safety. Train here and you will become the diver you know in your heart you want to be.
Tanner Troutt2023-08-15I had a great time getting my open water certification with Autumn! Autumn is an amazing instructor and was very thorough. This was my second attempt getting my certification. (First time was with a large class with a group of people at another organization) She helped me learn how to clear my mask better, which was one of my biggest struggles. I felt comfortable on each dive. I would recommend Autumn or Timmy for any training needs! Also, reasonable prices 😁 I am looking forward to furthering my certification and maybe even Intro Cave 😂

DAN- K2023-06-21I completed my NAUI Cave I training with Timmy. Hands down, Timmy is the best instructor I have ever had the honor of learning from. From day 1, he set the tone– I would be ending the week with earned confidence. I did not want to leave with a card that told me I was cave certified– I wanted to believe that I could dive within the limits of my certification with ease and confidence. Timmy’s teaching style can be described as masterful. His intentional tactic of placing you in real life situations under his supervision leads to irreplaceable and almost irreversible learning. He knows exactly how much to put on your plate to push you without ever compromising your safety. On day 1, I was not afraid of the cave knowing that Timmy was with me. On my last day, I was not afraid as I trusted my training. I spent 5 days with Timmy and I was challenged and supported. His direct yet warm personality works wonders when it comes to his classes. He tells it honestly so you are motivated to improve but he does not drag you down. He respects you. When it comes to dive training, I will ONLY point towards Timmy from now on. Regardless of Rec or Tec, I can’t imagine going back to other dive instructors having experienced his class. It is a guarantee that you will end the class with confidence that you will feel proud to have earned. He doesn’t give it out but when you earn it, you know you deserve it. Take a class with Timmy.
Sherry Cassilly2023-04-21Amazing experience working with Mr. Young. I live in Maryland and had been taking scuba classes but didn't want to do my check out dive in a quarry. Freshwater springs sounded much better. I found Mr. Young and am so glad that I did. He was a patient and oh, so excellent instructor for my check out dives. He went above and beyond by teaching me better finning skills. He videoed me in the water than showed it to me so I can improve my trim. I learned more from him in my 2 days than I had in Maryland. Highly recommend!
